Routine Development and Revision

Inspection programs are written or revised against the part print and the governing GD&T callouts. Feature selection, probe paths and clearance moves are checked before the routine is released for production use, with stylus configuration matched to the feature being measured.

Existing programs are revised when a print changes, a probe is replaced, or a routine begins returning inconsistent results. Fixturing and part orientation are reviewed alongside the program itself, since a shifted datum scheme invalidates a routine that was otherwise sound.

What a Program Covers

Programs are built around the measurement plan the part requires, not a generic template, with collision and access checked before release.

  • 01

    Feature extraction

Datums and toleranced features are selected to match the print requirement.

  • 02

    Path verification

Probe approach and clearance are checked to avoid part or fixture collision.

  • 03

    Output formatting

Reports are formatted to the layout production or quality requires.

  • 04

    Program revision

Existing routines are updated when a print, fixture or probe changes.

  • 05

    Stylus configuration

Probe tip and stylus length are matched to each feature called out on the print.

Development Steps

  • 01

    Print review

Datums, tolerances and critical features are identified from the drawing.

  • 02

    Routine build

Probe paths and feature capture are built in the CMM's native software.

  • 03

    Dry run

The program is run against a known part to confirm clearance and output.

  • 04

    Handoff

The finished routine and report format are delivered for production use.
